Jacobs Got Talent is just around the corner!

The April 24th Talent Show provides a spotlight for many of our amazing 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students to showcase their skills. The show's production features singing, dancing, playing instruments, joke-telling and more!

The PTO will once again be taking pre-orders for candy and floral bouquets. Be sure to place your order by Wednesday, April 17th!

It’s Time for
The 16th Annual Read-A-Thon!

Students warm up with a good book during the cold days of winter
to raise money to support field trips and school activities.  

HELP US BEAT LAST YEAR’S FUNDRAISING RECORD OF $10,548

Over $2,000 of the funds were allocated to purchase most popular books selected by the students for the Jacobs Elementary School and Memorial Middle School libraries!

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS…

WHO
Hull students at the Jacobs Elementary School and Memorial Middle School, grades K-8.

WHAT
Every student is engage in literacy as much as they can! READ books, magazines, and newspapers! Listen to audio books or sit with a grown-up or older sibling while they read aloud!

Each student will receive a Read-A-Thon pledge sheet to bring home and begin collecting pledges. We encourage students to get pledges from relatives and neighbors. Sponsors may pledge an amount for each minute read (ex. $.25 per minute) or a flat amount for participation in the Read-A-Thon (ex. $25).

Checks should be made payable to Hull PTO or donations can be made online via the button below:

WHEN
The Read-A-Thon is live from Saturday, January 26th at 8:00am through Sunday, February 3rd at 8:00pm.
***We are counting on parents/guardians to help remind our students about the official start and end times!  

Reading logs, pledge sheets, and donations are due on Wednesday, February 6th.

WHY
The Read-A-Thon is the Hull PTO’s largest and most successful fundraiser. 100% of Read-A-Thon profits are used to fund field trips, cultural enrichment programs, and other activities to enhance the quality of education to all K-12 Hull students.

On Friday, December 21, the Jacobs School will magically transform into a Winter Wonderland. The day will consist of a variety of activities including hot cocoa & treats, a craft project, and reindeer games. Children are invited to wear their pajamas(with sneakers) to school.

School's back in session — already need a night out?! Join Seaside Floral Design at LOCAL 02045 for a "PLANT NITE". We'll create our own succulent gardens with a nautical flair! All supplies are included. Full menu and drinks will be available for purchase! Tickets are $40 per person, with $5.00 of each ticket donated to the Hull PTO.

This color run is open to everyone!
Please share with your family and friends throughout the South Shore.

Get Active Fundraising Color Splash Run is an untimed fun run featuring a 5k course. Throughout the course, participants will experience color splash zones where they will be doused in color. There will also be a final color toss celebration.

Memorial School Arts Alive Day

 

The goal of Arts Alive is to raise awareness of artists and the arts in the community and in the world. We do so by bringing passionate artists, from hobbyists to professionals, to share their craft with students.

Guest Artists Needed by June 1, 2018!
As a guest artist, you will give an approximately 75 minute seminar where you share your talent with students. Guest artists are most successful when they are able to actively involve students. The more activity, the more students enjoy the seminar. A classroom teacher will be present in the room with you to assist with management and to offer assistance.

In the past we have offered Painting, Ceramics, Photography, Musicians, Singing, Rapping, Dance, Gymnastics, Graphic Design, Culinary Arts, Interior Design, Finish Carpentry, Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, Jewelry, Origami, Gardening, Creative Writing, Poetry, Knitting, Quilting, Weaving, Scrap booking, Card Tricks/Magician, Glass blowing, and Sculpture. We are always open to new ideas.

June 12th Timing and Details

  • 7:50am : Artists teaching first or first and second sessions arrive.
  • 8:15-9:30am : First session.
  • 9:10am : Artists teaching second session arrive.
  • 9:35am : Second session.

Seedlings will be for sale at both morning and afternoon concerts. All proceeds will benefit the Jacobs School Garden and the educational programs associated with it. And of course, donations are always welcome! Thank you Holly Hill Farm for donating the seedlings for the sale!

PTO Elections

Nominations are open to join PTO leadership!

Following are the positions that are up for election and will be voted on in our May 8 meeting: Co-President, Vice President, Treasurer, School Representatives (Jacobs, Memorial and High schools). See below for general job descriptions for each position.

If you’d like to nominate yourself or another person for a position(s), please email PTO Secretary Caryn O’Connor expressing interest—secretary@hullpto.org

. The President/Co-Presidents shall be the chief executive officer of the corporation. The President shall conduct all general meetings, annual meetings, special meetings, and shall chair all meetings of the Board of Directors.  The President shall be responsible for appointing members of the committee and selecting committee chairpersons. The President shall serve as an ex officio member of all committees except the nominating committee, and shall attend the committee meetings or review the minutes of such meetings.

2. The Vice President shall assume the duties of the President in the event of the President’s absence. The Vice President shall serve as an ex officio member of all committees except the nominating committee, and shall attend the committee meetings or review the minutes of such meetings. The Vice President shall undertake other responsibilities delegated to him/her by the President of the Board of Directors. 

3. The Treasurer shall maintain all financial records, books and accounts of the corporation. The Treasurer shall make reports to the board of directors upon request and shall make all records available for inspection upon request of the President or Board of directors. Prior to payment, the Treasurer shall present to the Board of Directors for approval all expenses exceeding $100.00 (one hundred dollars).

4. The School Representatives shall be members of the board of directors. The School Representatives shall serve as a liaison between the school they represent and the PTO. The School Representatives shall also serve as contacts or coordinators for events held at their school for example Teacher Breakfasts and Dinners, Open Houses, etc.

Dinner for Teachers during Parent Teacher Conference

Let's thank our wonderful teachers for the hard work they do by providing a hearty meal for them before conferences commence! Home-cooked or store-bought entrees, sides, or drinks are welcomed. Monetary donations toward dinner also accepted.

Arts Alive Day at Jacobs School

Arts Alive Day
Friday, March 23, 2018 1-2:30pm

The 10th annual Jacobs School Arts Alive Day is fast approaching!  We are looking for both guest artists and parent/guardian volunteers to make the day a success.

Arts Alive is PTO-sponsored arts-immersion day for Jacobs School students. During the school day, artists visit each classroom to demonstrate and lead the children in a wide range of art activities. In the morning, Crocodile River Music will teach the students about the music, art and culture of Africa, including a dance workshop for each grade.

GUEST ARTISTS NEEDED
We are seeking guest artists to volunteer in each classroom from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Guest artists will teach children about their chosen medium and then lead the kids in an art-related activity. Both professionals and hobbyists are welcome.

We are looking for a wide range of talents in both visual and performing arts. Past artists have included Zumba instructing, basket weaving, yoga, drama, painting, opera, martial arts, piano, Origami, banjo, guitar, culinary arts… even boat building! If you have an idea you would like to discuss, please feel free to contact me and we can brainstorm on how to make it work!

CLASSROOM VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Classroom volunteers are needed to assist the artists and the children during their classroom activities. We would like to get at least one volunteer per classroom to help from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
